I am Desiree, Des, writing as D. Gabrielle Jensen because I hate the way my name looks when it’s written (not a big fan of the way it sounds either…too many hard consonants, no soft ones). The goal of this circus is to write something every day. I go through phases where I try this and fail but maybe if I get some people interested in what I’m doing it will motivate me to continue.
Basically, I found these books on my bookshelf. Room to Write by Bonni Goldberg, The Writer’s Book of Matches ed. by Michelle Ruberg, and The Writer’s Idea Book by Jack Heffron; books of writing prompts. Three books of writing prompts…should keep me busy for a while. I hope.
But enough about that. Let’s talk about me! I have been a writer all my life. That’s all I have ever known. I mostly write fiction but also non-fiction, poetry. I have been told that A) my poetry is very “beat-esque” and B) that I should try my hand at satire or comedy. I don’t know about either of those statements but I guess we’ll see what comes of this little project.
**SHAMELESS PLUG** I own, manage, edit, publish, cook, clean and iron my own submission-based literary ‘zine, bending spoons (bending-spoons.com), that has been active for (the majority of) six years. Please check it out – if you have something that fits, submit, and then do the Facebook/Twitter thing.
I love music. Pretty much all music.
My favorite bands are AFI, Dashboard Confessional, Death Cab for Cutie, She & Him, Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin and ….
I LOVE Kill Hannah. I honestly don’t know where I would be in my life without them to heal, aid, guide, inspire. Theirs truly are The Songs that Saved My Life.
I am part of the Kill Hannah Kollective street team and really do love some of them like my third family.
The KHK is set up with a military-style ranking system for the members, at the request of the band, and I have earned the rank of Colonel for the Colorado division…which means I’m the leader and main contact person for my state. Pretty exciting stuff, that.
I love Monty Python, Tim Burton and John Hughes (R.I.P.).
I am a huge King Arthur nerd. It started with the Sword and the Stone when I was but a wee lass.
I love writing what people have called pulp-horror, which is essentially the kinds of stories you’d see on Tales from the Crypt – super short, very few characters, surprise twist ending.
I do other artistic things…crochet, draw, craft, sew, sing, take pictures… but writing is my best. If you want to see some photos and drawings I’ve done, go here: eiresfire.deviantart.com
Forotten Childhood is awesome
Thanks! That was one of those happy accidents that make photography so much fun. :)
